There is obviously something terribly wrong with either the embedding or recall or sample rate handling of IRs. Exported plugins using convolution go silent with convolution engaged. It just shapes the frequency spectrum to match.(3) In your DAW, split the original stems into L&R components. You especially want to match gain characteristics (breakup, distortion etc.), because the match EQ won't do anything for that. The closer you get here, the better your final result will be.Fine-tune the EQs if necessary. It should sound pretty close to the original stems. It will then auto-generate the match eqs for each channel, if you've set it up correctly.(5) You can now play your guitar and software-monitor in your DAW as a preview, through the 2 match EQs you just made. Capture them with the match EQs as the 'sources' you want to match.
Important: you need to select "MP Transform" on Deconvolver or they will sound crappy mixed with the stock Helix cabs. Save the L&R output as separate mono files, then use Deconvolver to create the IR files. You load that test tone into your DAW, run it through the L&R match EQs, and record the output. I use Voxengo Deconvolver, which creates a test tone file for you. There are a couple ways to do this. Ozone has a slider that lets you apply a high and low cut to its EQ match which works great for this.(6) Now you need to generate 2 IRs with the EQs you just made. You may have to adjust the L&R levels in Helix because the IR volume probably won't match the levels you heard in the DAW.
